I recently held the hand of a dying girl, the victim of a motorcycle accident. Although she never regained consciousness she touched me deeply. I came later to find out that the family is asking for donations in lieu of flowers to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Following is an excerpt from her obituary. She attended Alta and Jordan High Schools, SLCC, the Art Institute of Seattle, and the University of Utah majoring in Humanities. She was adventurous and excelled in skateboarding, snowboarding, and gymnastics. Her artwork and poetry was full of life and enjoyed by many. {Her} love of others was evidenced by her many acts of service. {She} expressed her desire to have all her organs donated. In 2003 she traveled to Peru on a Chasqui Humanitarian Service Expedition. She was an advocate of societies oppressed and disadvantaged. She touched the lives of many through her writings and contagious personality. She was rich in meaningful friendships. Her nieces and nephews adore her and loved the way she played with them. I am donating in her name part of the proceeds from the sale of prints of my new piece "Running Free" to this foundation. If you are interested in buying one of these prints, contact me at: nekko@knotworks.net.
