Technical Specifications: Spacecraft of the Earth Defense Forces and the Animal Freedom Fighters -To be added to the EDF Starfighter pilots training manual 1-1-35 Document No. 23452195 SPACECRAFT OF THE AFF This new threat to the human race has advanced ship designs, and excellent pilots, that fight to the death. While it is not currently known where or how they build their ships, we do know that they build them well. Although they are not attacking any planets or space stations in the Solar System right now, that could change soon, and you will need to know the characteristics of each enemy ship. We have managed to capture a few fighters partially intact, and have the following information. One unusual thing about AFF fighters is that no two are alike. It seems that each pilot customizes their own ship. Also, these ships are atmosphere capable, but do not carry any weapons that can fire in an atmosphere. We tried to get all the data we could, but a few days after we started inspecting them, they self-destructed, killing a number of scientists and technicians. One weakness in all AFF fighters is that they do not carry protective shielding. The armor is not even three inches thick on in the strongest areas. It is unknown how the hulls can be so thin, yet so durable. Another weakness is that they are very easy to detect on sensors, and can easily be seen, as the hull metal is extremely shiny. The purpose of the shine is still unknown, although we speculate that, like most animals, the pilots just like shiny things. However, the ships we captured didn't have the shine, so we couldn't do any testing on the material used. The starfighters all seem to be modeled after common birds of prey, such as eagles and hawks. The most frequently seen type is that of a hawk. These Hawks, as they are called, are very agile and quick, as are all of the AFF starfighters, and they carry at least three laser cannons. However, if hit in the beak area a few times, they are said to retreat. It is speculated that the beak holds the sensor array. The second most popular ship are the Falcons. These are even faster than Hawks, but they also carry only two laser cannons, four at the most. Falcons are the smallest of the AFF fighters. Try to hit these ships where the wings attach to the body, as this will either blow off the wings, or disable the engines. Eagles are not seen often, but their numbers are increasing, unfortunately. These are the most heavily armed and armored. They carry four laser cannons, one electron gun, as well as having two warhead launchers. The number of missiles carried varies according to the type loaded. There are no known weaknesses in this craft. With numerous sensors, these are also known to be scout craft. We realize that the claims of 1 SBD for the AFF armor seems crazy, but it is true. It appears that they only gave the fighters just enough armor to hold up the mass of the ships, for structural integrity. We used a standard laser, and shot the armor in the labs. The laser just sizzled through the armor. Also, please remember that the AFF ships are all different, so this is just what we found. Also, we had a hard time identifying the parts, so what we assumed to be a power pack could be a nav computer or a jump system. About the AFF in general, it seems that they just like destroying the human race. We recived a message from the AFF stating this. Not much more is known. They are active mostly in the Augstan sector, but are also known to be in the Timon, Sanlos, Digo, and Morst sectors. However, there has been at least one unexplained ship loss in almost every sector, which we blame on the AFF. They often wait, in the Timon sector, for our ships to engage the Trivions, and then attack when we are not looking. We are undertaking steps to locate their home planet. The capital ships specs we have provided is just a guess based on battle films, and the like, so don't be surprised if a ship launches more fighters than listed. Although there seems to be only a limited amount of these operational, they have destroyed a large amount of our smaller capital ships and space stations in several systems. This is the largest capital ship in the AFF Fleet. They look sleek and deadly, and they are. Although we have two full classes of ships that can out gun this class, Galaxies run when they encounter them. We managed to catch one in an ambush with some of our best ships, and that one AFF destroyed one and caused substantial damage to the rest. We must locate where the secret building locations are, and destroy them. Galaxies are very tough to destroy, and they carry a few fighter squadrons that add significantly to its destructive power. They are a fifth smaller, and do not boast as many weapons. Still, they are powerful ships. One common thing with all Novas is that no other class of AFF Capital ships fight as cunningly and as fiercely as these. It is as if they have nothing to lose by being damaged. These ships often run as escorts to the Galaxy class ships, but they are often the main weapons platform in an AFF attack. They are well armed, well protected, and well crewed. Even if a single ship is at a disadvantage against one of ours, these ships usually travel together in a pack, that is tough to attack. There is a modified version of the Star class. They have enlarged the hangar bays and increased the number of launching tubes, without significantly reducing the number of weapons on board. There is only one of these starfighter carriers. All we have heard is that they are smaller than Star classes, and probably will run as escorts or be the main ship in a hit and run attack. They are supposed to be quite fast. If any of you pilots spot one, turn on your recorders! We need pictures, and data about them. SPACECRAFT OF THE EDF FLEET The Earth Defense Force is one of the most elite groups of Starships in the entire Fleet. It is a real honor to be a member of this group. Although the name isn't accurate-the EDF protects the entire Solar System-you will get to guard our beautiful planet Earth from invaders in a number of great fighters, and have many Capital ships to back up your fighters. There are four types of one man fighters available. The lightest and quickest is the AroTech Kalidor. The next up is the Nexus Striker. The third most powerful is the Terrus Titan. The heaviest ship is the AroTech Raganork. The Kalidors are quick and agile, but not nearly as so as the AFF's fighters. One advantage of our ships though, is that we have shields on our ships. Although they are relatively weak, they recharge quickly. The Kalidor is sometimes used as a scout ship. Strikers are the most popular fighters. These offer a good blend of speed, armor, and firepower. You will probably start out in one of these ships. This ship carries four lasers as well as a warhead launcher. The Titans are an older model, but they still preform well and carry plenty of firepower. We often have to use Strikers to escort these fighters on their missions. Raganorks are the newest and most powerful fighters we have. Although a little slow, it more than makes up for that with it's huge amounts of firepower. These ships might make the Titans obsolete. These ships have a top secret sensor system that is very powerful. One small advantage of our fighters is that they are able to fly in an atmosphere, and carry atmosphere capable weapons, unlike the AFF units. After these additions, there will be 12 classes of capital ships: Colossus, Courageous, Devastators, Formidible, Fury, Glory, Imperator, Indomitable, Monarch, Triumph, plus Invincible and Voyager. The Lightning class corvettes are too small to be capital ships, but they have just been added to our fleets. They are extremly fast, but do not carry many weapons. They may be used as light freighters or escort ships. We could not obtain the specs for this ship as of our deadline, but it should be covered in the next edition. In addition to the ships, the Shieldor battle platforms is covered in here. They are relatively new, but have proven themselves in battle. These will eliminate the need for tying up our precious Starships in planetary defense operations. A capital ship is a very large warship capable of launching fighter ships, and of going into jumpspace, or hyperspace. If you are ever called into battle, there will usually be a few capital ships on each side. The largest types are capable of planetary assault missions. When a capital ship is launching fighters, they are loaded into launching tubes, and ejected out. An average rate is about 10 a minute, and there are about ten tubes on a ship. When the fighters are returning, there is a hangar that you fly your ship into, or have the auto-pilot do. Once in, your ship is caught by a magnetic field, and is floated down onto the floor, where it is loaded into the launching racks, or brought to Repairs. Invincible Battleship Although this grand, huge ship can be destroyed, it is next to impossible to. This easily out-classes even the Galaxy Battleships. It would take all of the AFF's puny fleet to even scratch this giant's skin. There is only one of these monster ships in the entire galaxy, but that is probably enough. This ship is the flagship of the whole Fleet, and strong enough to be safe from any attack. In addition it being supreme in space combat, it also carries several full planetary assault groups. Model #/Name: FSDS1A Invincible Design/Manufacturer: AroTech/Nexus/Terrus Combat Designation: Capital Starship/Heavy Battleship Length: 10,000 meters Crew: 301,406 crew members, 3,231 officers Weapons: 5,000 Advanced lasers 6,500 Standard lasers 450 Electron cannons 500 warhead launchers Starfighter squadrons: 10 Kalidors, 12 Strikers, 9 Titans, 10 Ragnaroks Planetary Assault: 15 Full divisions of StormTroopers with Battle Armor 10 divisions of Heavy Assault Vehicles, 5 platoons of ST/Mechs, 100 landing barges Other Craft: 100 Shuttles 75 Boarding Craft 50 Patrol Craft Armor/Shields: Standard Energy Shield (550 SBD) Duraminum QuadLayer hull (750 SBD) Shieldor Battle Stations These space platforms are used to protect planets from enemy forces. They orbit their planets, usually in a geostationary pattern. They carry a decent amount of fire power, but their real strength is their fighter squadrons, and their ability to absorb and repair any damage inflicted on them. These rugged craft are usually the ones that hold back enemy ships long enough for reinforcements to arrive. Model #/Name: SP-53A Shieldor Design/Manufacturer: Turplex Combat Designation: Battle Platform Length: 3200 meters Crew: 2,329 crew members, 114 officers Weapons: 6 Turplex dual advanced lasers 60 Turplex dual standard lasers 20 Turplex electron cannons 5 AroTech warhead launchers Starfighter squadrons: 5 Kalidors, 7 Strikers, 5 Titans, 5 Ragnaroks Armor/Shields: Turplex Standard energy shield (450 SBD) Duraminum QuadLayer hull (230 SBD) Voyager Destroyers These smaller, quick craft usually find work as either patrol or escort craft. With their large number of disabling electron cannons, they also help in missions where a large target needs to be disabled. They are relatively quick and sturdy, although it can't take on Star class ships by itself. They are the smallest EDF capital ships, and maybe the most numerous. Model #/Name: 2X13C Voyager Design/Manufacturer: Terrus Fleet Works Combat Designation: Escort Starship Length: 1,500 meters Crew: 2,323 crew members, 34 officers Weapons: 50 Advanced lasers 40 electron cannons 25 Standard lasers 10 warhead launchers Starfighter squadrons: 1 Kalidor, 3 Strikers 1 Titan, 1 Ragnarok Armor/Shields: TFW Standard Energy shield (200 SBD) Duraminum QuadLayer hull (150 SBD) Weapons This part is about a few of the various weapon systems that you will use and be attacked by. The first part is about guns, the next homing warheads, and the last about miscellaneous items. Guns A gun weapon will be your chief tool in a dogfight. These shoot a short concentrated burst of laser energy. It takes a split second to charge up the beam before firing, and a short time to cool and recharge the laser. If in a dogfight you see a ball of light collect at the tip of your enemy's guns, dodge out of the way. It is tough to avoid a shot, but the flip side of the laser is that you need to be very accurate to hit something. Advanced lasers, also called heavy lasers, are just like regular lasers except they hit harder, and take more energy and time to operate. These do roughly about twice the damage of a regular laser. Another type of gun your ship might be equiped with is the electron cannon. All this does is fire a stream of electrons, or electricity at a target ship. The electricity travels along a suderconducting wire that is fired from your ship, and attaches to your opponet's with a small claw. It is hard to hit a small ship with this weapon, but it is possible, particularly if a capital ship is shooting. The electron cannon takes a large amount of power to operate, but once it hits a ship, the electricity fries all of the target ship's systems, and often stuns the pilot. This gun is most useful when you need to disable something. There are quite a few other gun systems expected to become operational soon. Warheads There are five main types of warheads available, with many small variants. The types are, from weakest to strongest: Missiles, Advanced Missiles, Rockets, Heavy Rockets, and Heavy Bombs. The missiles carry a weak warhead, just sufficent to destroy a fighter. These are extremely fast and agile, though. They carry good guidance systems, with an average hit rate. The advanced missiles carry more power, and move faster and turn a little better than regular missiles. They have a sophisticated guidance system, with an almost 100% hit rate. If an enemy can evade one of these, you had better watch out. Rockets are only for use against medium sized ships, or slow moving opponents. They move slowly, but faster than a starfighter, although they can not turn better than one. Useful for attacking convoys of enemy ships. Heavy rockets are slower and less agile than regular ones. They carry a very strong warhead, however, and are very useful for attacking capital ships. Heavy Bombs move so slowly, you must be very close to your target, which must be a capital ship, or a stationary object. Although very slow, one of these can destroy corvettes and destroyers! About 5 can take out a capital ship, depending on what size it is. An experimental weapon still in the prototype stages is a special type of missile that can penetrate shields, and latches onto the hull of the target. Then, it explodes and scatters a chemical that attacks the hull metal and disintegrates the metal, causing a hull rupture. If fired at the engine area, it is hoped that one can destroy an entire ship.
