Maryssa has a treble-striped tail. She has left 'gloves' and 'socks' but not right. The fur running down her front is white, except for a black patch around her navel. Her head is covered with white fur except for a black patch around her left eye and a thin black line running down her muzzle.
Maryssa was not born into a happy household. Her father drank heavily and used to beat her mother. When, at the age of two, Jason began to hit her as well, Marie finally left him. The divorce was very unpleasant - Jason was not above using violence to try and get his own way - but, eventually, Marie got a settlement that allowed her to start again. Still, she struggled to bring Maryssa up on her own.
Maryssa's early teens were fairly wild, but things had calmed down by the time she was 16. She had a brief affair with a Skunk man, Daniel Soylent, when she was around 17, but it turned out he was cheating on his actual girlfriend.
Maryssa and Bethany rented a flat where they lived as they studied their respective subjects - Maryssa studied accountancy and business management. Just before her 20th birthday, Maryssa entered into a relationship with a Human, James Boyden. It lasted for a few months, ending as the negative aspects of his personality - self-centred, controlling, aggressive - came to light.
Maryssa took a job in the Ix'Tni treasury, the only Skunk in her department, working with Rees, who she got on well with. Rees invited her to a small party he was holding, where she met Slaxx. They arranged to meet again.
