Chapter 2: Lamentations ----------------------- Shike was the first to wake the next morning. She found her head rested on the tummy of her love. Smiling, she rose and woke him. Her only thoughts were whether Heth would encourage them to live their lives normally, or try to force her to bring about the holy apocalypse. He was first to speak. "I can't do anything till you get off of me you know." She chuckled; How does he do that? Always having the perfect thing to say.. Well, it was perfect to her anyway. "I can't do that till you get off my tail, eh?" Without another word, he flipped onto her, snuck a few quick kisses, and leaped off the bed taking the covers with him. Without a second glance, he strode out of the room in search of food, leaving her to make the bed. "No fair.." she pouted, but fixed the sheets anyway, knowing she didn't even want him to try. After the small chore, she slipped on some clothes, and left the room. It was a new day, one that would re-decide her fate. Either way though, she wasn't going to say the name. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * After their daily routine, they left for school. Ignoring classes, their immediate destination became the office of the counsellor. The thought that Heth might be busy never came to pass, and fortunatly for them, she wasn't. It was the same room, with the same religious paraphenelia scattered upon the walls. There was only a single chair on each side of the desk, and Heth occuppied the further one. They both decided to stand, not wanting the comfort of sitting in place of the other standing. Jiz spoke with a familiarity that Shike found rather unsettling. "Heya Heth. This is Shike, the one I've told ya about. You saw her yesterday for a vision, remember?" Shike vowed to ask him why he seemed to know her so well, and what exactly he'd been telling this mouse about her. For now though, she'd put it to the back of her mind. She was about to speak, to explain the situation, but Jiz interrupted. "Anyhow, she had another, and she was told the name of The Evil. Later last night, I was told the name of The One, do you understand?" Obviously somebody with such a religious background of the kind rodent would pick up in an instant, yet she seemed unfazed. "Jiz, professionally it's improper to utterly disbelieve anything that's told to me, so I won't get into my motives for that. It's my job to offer advice on what I'm told.. So all I can say is that Shike here should use the name of the Evil and cause the utopia of The One ruling over all. She should be able to sacrifice herself for that, right?" Shikes heart sank. If Jiz were to side with this opinion, she'd have to hate him, plain and simple. It's strange and hurtful to know you may be forced to hate something you truly love.. Strange that it's so inexplicable, nobody that hasn't experienced it could understand. She had to interject there; "No.. No I won't. We can just go on normally can't we? There's no harm in that is there?" It wasn't a good argument, but it was all she could manage from the spur of the moment. She bit into her lip, the anxiety was almost too much to take. It was a never ending instant between the time she finished and the time Heth replied. Fortunatly, her prayers were answered, Heth continued: "I suppose not. In any case, would you go back to class now? I have some work to do." Although the response was hurried, it was all Shike could ever ask for. She left with her love. "Thank you so much, you don't know how much this means to me!" Heth merely shrugged. She figured they were just trying to cut class time, though it didn't seem like something Jiz would do. Either way, she was being paid, and when she didn't believe the stories she was told, being paid was all that mattered to her. Outside, Shike knew her troubles were at an end. Her life could be normal now. She grasped his hand gently and began to lead him outside. He looked at her, puzzled. "Where are we going? Classes started ten minutes ago." "Oh well. We can catch up tomorrow. I need to talk to you about this."
