Chapter III

Union

3 months after the camping incident, Aaron and Sarah were recovering from their injuries in the hospital that Ryan was the Chief of Surgery of. He went every day to visit with them.

"All right," Ryan said, "we just need to do a tissue removal surgery, to diminish the scars. After which, we'll keep you for observation and recovery for about a week, then you will be discharged." The two held hands and smiled.

"Good," Sarah said, "should we tell him?" Aaron and Sarah giggled.

"Tell me what?" Ryan chuckled.

"Aaron asked me to marry him. And I said yes."

"Congratulations. When's the big day?"

Sarah pulled out a binder from under her pillow. "A week after we get out. Here are the plans," Sarah said.

Ryan flipped through the binder and pulled out his check book. "You need any money?"

"No, we can pay for it ourselves."

"No, I insist. Think of it as a get well present. How much?"

Sarah went over the niumbers in her binder. "It looks like we're short ten thousand dollars."

Ryan wrote a check and ripped it out. He handed it to Aaron. He read the check and gasped. "You're just giving away this kind of money?" Sarah asked to see the check, and also gasped.

"You're giving us one hundred thousand dollars? Just like that? Why?"

Ryan chuckled. "I'll never spend it, besides, think of the honeymoon you could go on with that."

Sarah looked like she was deep in thought when something clicked. "We could...but I...We could go...." Seh let go of a sigh and passed out.

Aaron became worried. "What happened?"

"The joy overloaded her system, and she passed out. She's just sleeping. I'll see you during your surgery." He began to walk out, then walked back in. "Aaron?"

"Yeah?"

"I hope you two have a long and happy life."

"Ryan, could you arrange the batchelor party for me?"

Ryan grinned. "Are you asking me to be your best man?"

"Yeah, will you?"

"Sure. See ya later."

"See ya. And thanks."

Ryan walked out of the room and put his head on his desk. He decided to sleep for a few moments, and a few moments turned into a few minutes, and minutes turned into hours. When he woke up, it was time for the surgery.

About an hour into the surgery, Ryan had been called away from Sarah's surgery to Aaron's surgery. "What's going on? Why was I paged?"

The surgeon, a tall dingo, told Ryan to look at Aaron's stomach lining. Ryan did so, and learned why he was called away. There was a tumor.

Ryan said, "Oh, God. Is that cancerous?"

The surgeon said, "We're getting it tested, we just needed to know if we should just take it out to prevent another surgery, or if we should just leave it."

"You go to O.R. 2 and take care of the surgery there, I'll take care of this." The surgeon left. "After I take this out, I want the whole thing tested. Have the results brought to my office, and I will personally tell them what happened."

The surgery finished, and three hours later, Ryan recieved the test results. He was relieved, and went to tell Aaron and Sarah how the surgery went.

Sarah looked worried, and said, "Why won't the other doctors tell me how the surgery went, and why won't Aaron wake up?"

"Because I wanted to tell you personally. Your surgery went smoothly, but Aaron's had a slight interruption. We found a non-cancerous tumor in his stomach lining and removed it. He should wake up soon. He will have to stay for another week, then you guys can go home."

"Ryan, Thanks." Ryan left.

Two weeks after the surgery, Aaron and Sarah were discharged. They went home, and Ryan went to his office to plan the batchelor party. Later that night, he went home and went to sleep. He couldn't sleep, because he felt something terrible was going to happen soon.
